Day 3 in Fukuoka: Dazaifu. Plums and Shrine.

3rd day in Fukuoka, my roommate and I decided to take a trip to Dazaifu!

Dazaifu is a huge tourist place in Fukukoka where there is a very big temple called Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.

This shrine becomes especially busy during march because of its amount of plum tree in the area.
Which is why ever store near this shrine sells this "Umegae Mochi" which is a dessert with sticky rice with red bean paste inside with plum design on the surface.

Its 105yen for one (doesn't matter where u buy it, its the same price).
aprox $1.5

Cool designed starbucks.

The first thing we did when we got there was eat lunch because I got too hungry and couldn't walk anymore lol. This is the inner garden of the restaurant.

I got katsudon for lunch.

Katsudon is fried breaded pork with egg on the top which then put on top of rice.
One of my favvvvourite Japanese food.

Too many people at the shrine.

Since it was still February and it was a little bit cold, it wasn't fully bloomed.

But I enjoyed the beautiful shrine with the snow on the top though.

These cylinder containers include gallons of rice wine.

What a name. "Legendary Flying Plum Tree"

The forest around the shrine was beautiful as well.

Plum blossoms are a lot more pink and red than the sakura.

We then walked to the Kyushu National Museum.

Beside the Kyushu National Museum was Dazaifu wonderland.
It was creepy because
a) No one was around
b) Creepy music was the only sound we can hear from the place
c)No one was on the rides.

Leaving that creepy place behind we decided to hurry and go inside the museum.

$2 to go inside the museum. Very affordable don't u think?

Before we went inside the museum though there was an even where this creepy cute bear was dancing on the stage. This is called "Yurukyara". Yurukyara is a character made to represent a certain area (most likely a prefecture). These Yurukyara are supposed to promote their own prefecture/place by going to events such as this place and sell/let ppl know their local fruits/veggies/service to other ppl in Japan.  The reason why they use these characters to promote is because Japanese ppl like cute characters like Hello Kitty. Anything with a character apparently works.

Don't know where this bear is looking.

I didn't think ppl had to be explained to how to use a toilet that starts from
a) First, sit down on the stool.
.....

The Museum was very informational and a good place to use ur afternoon.

The tunnel to go back towards the shrine.

Even the floor was designed as plum blossoms!

There were a lot less people in the afternoon.

I got a sakura icecream.

My roommate got plum icecream.

After 6 hours or so we are back in dazaifu station to go back to the city side.

They have cirque de soleil in fukuoka as well.

Below are some pictures of the city...

Underground shops.

It saids "this elevator will stop on any levels u would like to stop at"

We then met with our friends again at night to go eat some goood Fukuoka food.

Takana is very famous in Fukuoka. It was sooo spicy and good.

Mentaiko (fish egg) fried rice. (Fukuoka is famous for fish eggs)

My hakata ramen!

Dumplings!

Maccha jelly for dessert. Yum yum.

And this is our last night in Fukuoka.
Sad... Next post will be the last!
